Wishing you a Happy New Year (yes you can say that until the end of January,
especially if your newsletter comes out on the last Friday of the month ;) ) and
thank you for having me in your inbox – I know time’s precious. Welcome to new subscribers too!
I wanted to title this newsletter Three weddings and a Funeral. But would you have clicked it open? Who knows? So, I went for the safe option. I started 2024 in Ghana at a friend’s wedding. It lasted three days! Loved it. But sadly, I had to come home to a funeral. As we know, in life there are good times, and sad times. Thank you everyone who sent kind messages.
But January is for fresh starts so let’s dive into the reason you’re here – Fonts, Designery Things and Freelancing Life!
I’ll be honest I’ve not done much client work since last year… well, since December lol. So, I haven’t found all that many fonts at work. But you know me. Always looking around on the streets, online, anywhere I go.
In Ghana I became interested in symbols used by the Ashante (a Ghananian tribespeople). I bought a book on them. I wondered if there was a font associated with it that did not look like the obvious ‘African’ typeface – you know – I’m thinking Lion King.
I discovered the Adinkra font based on those symbols:
